What is the relationship between thought and action? Actually, fundamentally, there may be none. In other words, thought may not have any relationship with true action. It may be that each and every thought is a reaction and, being in (and “of”) the realm of reaction, thought cannot create what is beyond reaction. It may be like asking a shadow to create light. Only the absence of the shadow may, perhaps, allow light to be. The shadow cannot create (or “make”) the light.
However, when thought/thinking is absent (and not endlessly functioning, such as with a truly meditative mind), then insight may occur, which involves deep understanding and real compassion. Thought/thinking, being of endless reaction in most people, is very mechanical and robotic. This explains a lot of the conflict, wars, miseducation, and insanity that go on in the world, caused by humans. Most people have been educated (i.e., programmed) to exist primarily as thought/thinking (i.e., as reactions).
My Blog primarily consists of close-up nature photos (that I've taken locally) combined with original holistic-truth oriented prose and/or poetry involving mindfulness/awareness. I love nature and I love understanding the whole (not merely the parts and the details). I'm a retired teacher of the multiply handicapped.
I have a number of interesting hobbies, such as fossil collecting, sport-kite flying, 3D and 2D close-up photography, holography, and pets. Most of all, I am into holistic self-awareness, spontaneous insight, unconventional observation/direct perception, mindfulness, meditation, world peace, non-fragmentation, population control, vegetarianism, and green energy.

Give me spontaneity anytime in preference to the deep thinking, procrastinating type! So long as it isnβt Trumpian autonomy of course!! π«£
Have a good Christmas Tom and A Healthy, Fun 2026.
Well hopefully people can put on their New Year’s resolution aims to put more effort into the thinking process and to think more deeply and for themselves. The orange Tiger Lily is exquisite Tom.
Hi Tom – Once again I did not get your reply so, I hopped onto your site (which name I’ve memorized as it is cute). Finally, it is the first day of Winter, although it’s felt like it since Thanksgiving. We’re getting a warm-up for Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, but rain. Thankfully, my gutter guy is finally coming tomorrow to clean the gutters. He had suspended gutter work due to the ice and snow and I had an ice dam a few weeks ago. I can hardly wait for sunny, warm weather like your Lily was enjoying here.
Yes, Linda, it seems like winter was already here for a very long time… with snow after snow. I’m glad that we are not going to have a white Christmas; we’ve already had way too much white.
I haven’t been on the roof for a good while — being older — but gutter guards are up there, so things should be fairly good. Yes, warm weather will be welcomed (in the spring and summer)!
People are whining about no white Christmas and I’m not going anywhere, but I want to say to them “you can go anywhere, no ice and snow to worry about, whether traveling by car or especially by air. I will never get on a plane again. I don’t deem it safe anymore. I’m thinking about getting gutter guards. I asked the handyman about it years ago and he said “it’s not a good idea” but perhaps he thought it was cutting into one of his twice-yearly jobs. I just heard we are having a wintry mix tomorrow morning, so I hope that doesn’t deter him from getting this done.
Interesting relationships, “Thought and Action” and “Thought and Mouth” (in my case without filter).
Ha! Funny! Merry Christmas! βοΈπ

Yes, that would be wonderful, Linda! Thank you about the lily.
We need some warm weather soon (very soon). This cold dampness is getting to my arthritis.

I am ready now for Spring!
You have a great Christmas too Tom!
Hence, the wisdom of β hold that thought.β
Yes, Richard… let it be kept in abeyance. π
And while it’s been said that “free will” is a given, based on reactions without thought, is that really so? Appreciate your thoughts, Tom!
