Can real, psychological quietness be “made” to happen?…

Can real, psychological quietness be “made” to happen by a learned psychological image of a central controller (that is neither central nor a true controller)?
Is such a “made” quietness actually phony, because it was concocted by a conditioned psychological process that is — in itself — erroneous (and not a legitimate controller)? A fallacious process is not likely to produce a very orderly (profound) psychological result.
To psychologically die to what is false is easy if a real, living passion for truth is there, and if real courage, joy, and intelligence are also factors. True quietness may occur — naturally and without effort — in a mind that is orderly, perceiving without much conditioning and contamination by a manipulating society.

wow – great post – amazing that anyone can ‘make” quiet happen – yikes – speak to our collective need to CONTROL every facet of life – incredible hubris!

Control, Sara, is largely an illusion. However, we are such egoists that most of us can’t fathom what existing without control entails. Just yesterday, i watched a TED Talk video on how one’s gut bacteria determines a lot of what constitutes one’s personality and social outlook. There is a complex nerve network between the gut and the brain. It’s a two way street but 80% of the messages are going from the gut to the brain (and not the other way around). Eating lousy food really turns us into lunatics. Intelligence eats correctly and (hopefully) perceives and thinks correctly. 😉

I just have to laugh – control is a joke – even when we gut stuck in it some of us like me know it!!!! Which makes it worse….I whined all day yesterday about the storm – as if I change the outcome? Not one of my better days! My head and gut are always communicating distress of one kind or another if I am upset – and how can eating rotten food NOT create more problems – yet fast food seems to be everyone’s favorite – My stomach would be in instant revolt if I ate that crap – fortunately for me/ my gut I don’t like it!

Now I was hard pressed to know what this photo was Tom, so I am glad you identified it. It looked like a wrap sandwich. 🙂

I see, kind of like lava rock in the garden. I have a couple of large black lava rocks in my front garden, which should be moved as the trees and bushes have now filled out the garden and you can’t see them. I have smaller volcanic red lava rocks in the side garden as well. That is a large aquarium. Yes, I realize now a small hole in the rock becomes greatly magnified with a macro lens.

No, Linda, it’s not that much like a Lava Rock. Lava Rocks have tiny holes and these heavy aquarium rocks have holes a half an inch (or an inch) wide. I used to also keep lava rocks in some of my aquariums but don’t any longer. They tend to let black beard algae grow and black beard algae is a terrible algae pest that is hard to get rid of.
