When The Mind Worships What it Considers to be God…

When the mind — as thought/thinking — worships what it considers to be “God,” it — in actuality — is worshipping thought-formulated images that it absorbed from others or that it manufactured on its own. So, in essence, it is worshipping itself (or part of itself). Alternatively, it may be far more prudent to diligently inquire as to whether the sacred really exists (or not). And such an explorative inquiry, if it is to be pristine and uninfluenced by outside (or inside) agencies, may best be often done beyond the limitations and trickery of thought/thinking. A lens that is not contaminated by outside debris perceives clearly beyond all of the rot. Keeping the mind healthy, clear, inquisitive, compassionate, orderly, and of dynamic depth, may be far more important than clinging to secondhand images, beliefs, so-called experts, and traditional routines.

My Blog primarily consists of close-up nature photos (that I've taken locally) combined with original holistic-truth oriented prose and/or poetry involving mindfulness/awareness. I love nature and I love understanding the whole (not merely the parts and the details). I'm a retired teacher of the multiply handicapped. I have a number of interesting hobbies, such as fossil collecting, sport-kite flying, 3D and 2D close-up photography, holography, and pets. Most of all, I am into holistic self-awareness, spontaneous insight, unconventional observation/direct perception, mindfulness, meditation, world peace, non-fragmentation, population control, vegetarianism, and green energy. I would like to add to your beautiful reflection Tom a gentle connection to the spiritual Heart.

The leaf looks about as dilapidated as we humans collectively feel this Summer, with Mother Nature causing weather extremes and calamities everywhere. It is difficult not to hold on tight to what was and try to embrace the here and now in ALL respects, not just weather.

Yes, it’s payback time from Mother Earth toward mankind, Linda… and we haven’t seen nothin’ yet; just wait!
Embracing the here and now has its real limitations. I, unlike what many subscribe to, do not advocate mindlessly sticking to the here and now. As T.S. Eliot wrote in his insightful poetry: “Love is most nearly itself when here and now cease to matter.”

Mother Nature didn’t like your state very much today – hope you are safe Tom. We were supposed to have severe weather Sunday, but it may be on Monday now. I’ll be happy for Fall if it is a bit cooler.

You give me food for thought with T.S. Eliot’s writing.
