Safe in the Crimson Spread of Things…

Maybe humans could learn a thing or two from some simple, natural creatures. What humans are doing to the earth is unnatural and cruel. We need to change.

(Please consider going green more, and please consider donating often to such places as the Environmental Defense Fund and The Sierra Club. I donate to these monthly.)

Safe in the crimson spread of things
the foliage is my home and my guardian

I will eat it little by little
but will not eat too much of its purply protection

It will guard me, protect me, and feed me
       It will become me

It is my world, my universe, my abode
It is not what i will merely destroy and abuse

My Blog primarily consists of close-up nature photos (that I've taken locally) combined with original holistic-truth oriented prose and/or poetry involving mindfulness/awareness. I love nature and I love understanding the whole (not merely the parts and the details). I'm a retired teacher of the multiply handicapped. I have a number of interesting hobbies, such as fossil collecting, sport-kite flying, 3D and 2D close-up photography, holography, and pets. Most of all, I am into holistic self-awareness, spontaneous insight, unconventional observation/direct perception, mindfulness, meditation, world peace, non-fragmentation, population control, vegetarianism, and green energy. Stay mindful, understanding, and caring!...

  1. OH, I am so moved by this poem…. I am so moved by the simplicity and complexity behind such sentiment….and oh the grasshopper! “Safe in the crimson spread of things…” Ah, evocative words Tom.
I don’t have much money so I have to be very careful about who I endorse. The one regional group that walks its own talk is The Northeast Wilderness Trust – they save land and timber for nature’s sake – they promise that no tree will ever be cut on land/forests they acquire in perpetuity. They restrict human recreation (another plague) to walking on paths. NO motorized vehicles. I write for these folks, and have visited a couple of their properties – In New England/NY they have saved 42 thousand acres so far – and since the northeast is the only part of the country in the east that has reminats of old forests we all need to support organizations like this one that have this kind of tree focus… please anyone who reads this (and cares about breathing and clean water which trees provide) check out Northeast Wilderness Trust. org.

    • Wow, Sara, Northeast Wilderness Trust sounds like a most wonderful organization! It’s so cool that you are a writer for them! 😊
I get solicitations from other environmental groups besides the ones that I already contribute to monthly, but one can only donate so much.
I think that the current viruses are nature’s way of getting back at humanity for our over-population and propensities to pollute.

      • Please check out that organization – its more encompassing than the ones you mention – its a big picture Trust…. I’m not suggesting you donate now just that you go see what these folks are up to and how they go about it for the future…. yes, It is a natural consequence of our stupidity that we continue to deal with viruses that mutate because thats what viruses do – just today I spoke with a woman who said “I have immunity I’m not poisoning my body with drugs I believe I’ll be fine” My response was curt – fine for you maybe but what about others? SILENCE and then I added and who cares what we believe – we need to care about others regardless – I am getting more and verbal because I am finally getting angry – I’m just as sick of masks as anyone else – BUT I wear one…

  2. Tom, I truly appreciate your sensitivity and dedication to shouting this message out for all the world to hear. Such insensitivity with the destruction of our natural habitat is absolutely asinine to me. I still have a problem wondering how so many people don’t think there is a problem. 😠

I watch how the tiniest of creatures, even if I am not fond of them, serve a purpose that is critical to our survival. πŸ›πŸœπŸž But they don’t pay rent, they don’t need to buy insurance, and they don’t even need to worry about what is not stocked on the grocery store shelves. Yet, here we are, the “smart” ones doing the most dumb things! SMH πŸ˜• Is there a vaccine for foolishness and stupidity? πŸ€”πŸ˜²πŸ€¨

      • Sending big hugs and smooches your way Tom! πŸ€—πŸ˜˜πŸ₯° Don’t change your attitude or advocacy for what is good and right my friend. Have the most FANtabulous day, always staying curious in your quest for great adventures that surrounds us all. πŸŒžπŸ‘πŸ½πŸŒŸ There’s absolutely nothing wrong with trying to fight for the very planet that sustains us. πŸ₯‚

      • We are fighting a losing battle — that, I’m sure Greta Thunberg would agree with — but at least we are trying. So sad that one major political party in the U.S. is bought and paid for by the diabolical fossil-fuel industries… and that people are gullible enough to swallow their sinking crap.
        Thanks again, Kym! 😊

  3. Your image conveys how “rosy” life could be if only we’d adopt the grasshopper perspectives and behaviors.
Thanks for your nudge to support EDF and other organizations focused on undoing some of humanity’s collective damage.
