Photographing out in nature is so exhilarating and joyful for me… that I oftentimes feel the equivalent of being at Disney World (minus the mosquitoes and poison ivy, of course)!  There, it truly seems to me, actually are so many splendid miracles of nature that – even if Tinker Bell miraculously showed up – there couldn’t be much more of an explosion of real miracles!  When I was in kindergarten and grade school, they’d say: “Tom’s not here… he’s outdoors looking for bugs and small creatures.”  Retired and in my sixties, they say: “Tom’s not here… he’s outdoors looking for bugs and small creatures.”

[This is a Swallowtail mimic… a magnificent butterfly in its own right,  a brushfooted butterfly known as the Red-spotted Purple, resting on some Queen Anne’s Lace.  They like to hang around rivers.  This one was in a wooded area along a river.  Around it are flying little Midge flies (some of which have a rather Tinker Bell appearance).  Unlike at Disney World, one did not have to pay any entrance fees or stand in long lines.]

My Blog primarily consists of close-up nature photos (that I've taken locally) combined with original mindfulness sayings and/or poetry that deals with mindfulness/awareness. I love nature and I love understanding the whole (not merely the parts and the details). I'm a retired teacher of the multiply handicapped. I have a number of interesting hobbies, such as fossil collecting, sport-kite flying, 3D and 2D close-up photography, holography, and pets. Most of all, I am into holistic self-awareness, spontaneous insight, unconventional observation/direct perception, mindfulness, meditation, world peace, non-fragmentation, population control, vegetarianism, and green energy. 1. Thomas, I always enjoy your wonderful posts. Having as hobby to walk around and looking for bugs is better than sitting in front of the tv and drinking beer! Enjoy your garden and this day, regards Mitza

    • Much appreciated, Mitza! And i always really enjoy your photography posts as well; you have a great eye! Yes, so many have no hobbies whatsoever. I have so many that i don’t have nearly enough time for them all.

I just recently had arthroscopic knee surgery, and so can’t (temporarily) go out wandering to enjoy nature and the outdoors. It’s very disappointing… but it won’t last long!

      • I think we have something in common: many hobbies and love for nature.
Sad to hear about your knee surgery. Get well soon so that you can enjoy your garden and the beauties of nature again. Regards Mitza

  2. Thanks, Mitza! It seems to be healing pretty fast so far! (I was probably up and about a bit too much yesterday… getting an aquarium ready and set up for a new species of dwarf Corydoras catfish… Corydoras hastastus.) 🙂
