The Salesman

)”We have many featured products,”

said the salesman,

“that you may be interested in.”

“Do you have any,”

said the wise man,

“that can give back to nature what the manufacturing process took away?”

“I don’t understand what you are talking about,”

said the salesman,

as an involuntary, nervous tic evidenced itself spontaneously.

“None of the vacuums that you sell can clean up the mental and smelly environmental rubbish,”

said the wise man,

“that we humans caused and now are in.”

“What does that mean?”

asked the salesman,

as he coughed and wiped a bit of sweat from what was considered ‘his’ forehead.

“It means,” said the wise man,

“that (there is no ‘I’ that is interested in

buying what a ‘you’ allegedly have.”

Environmental Chaos and Mindlessness

Before we congratulate ourselves for being an intelligent, wonderful species, we need to get our act together and stop ruining the entire planet for ourselves and all other species. (I, like my mother, was very good at having very accurate premonitions. I am currently 71; when i was a child, i had a premonition that human beings would ruin the planet by causing too much pollution.) Currently, the pollution and smoke in the Midwest are so bad that i have to wear a mask when outdoors. And temperatures are soaring. Unfortunately — and tragically — the poor birds, insects, and other creatures of nature do not have masks to wear. They must remain outdoors and they are truly suffering. (I have been in tears about it.) And i do not care to write this but it’s true… lately, scientists are saying that the Doomsday Glacier (i.e., the Thwaites Glacier) is melting much faster than previous predictions have suggested. They say that it’s hanging on by its fingernails. Its melting, in turn, will disrupt the oceanic currents that have been necessary for regulating and balancing Earth’s global climate. And, there are plenty of people — like my next-door neighbors — who think that manmade climate change is a myth. We all need to curtail global environmental mindlessness and do much better for the sake of the earth and its creatures.

Slithering in this oscillating domain
Feeling it
Breathing it
Loving it
Being an important part of it

[Note:  This is an innocent, non-poisonous Garter Snake.  I am delighted that she has emerged from our sandy soil to spend time around our house!  Such snakes eat mice, rats, and other such vermin.  Too many people foolishly kill snakes whenever snakes are seen.  Snakes are an important part of the beautiful balance of nature.]

Hotter than Hell Today Haiku

They cling to guns to feel safe
while callously letting the environment go to hell.
It’s all really starting to smell.

[Note:  So sad that the U.S. is a country addicted to guns.  Even the children have taken up shooting each other.  On another note:  So many fly in jets to go on vacations to “beautiful places,”  or to take “beautiful” nature photos.  The carbon footprint of jet travel, for human beings, is unbelievably high, massively high; there is nothing beautiful about ruining the environment.  People who frequently go traveling around the world are admired by others, not by me.]
