Feelings

Not all feelings are the same. Some are ordinary, run-of-the-mill feelings (consisting of mechanical reactions, just as mundane thoughts are). For the most part, such feelings are rather superficial, limited, and self-aggrandizing.

Certain other feelings are entirely different, being insightful, holistic, and deeply non-egotistically heartfelt. The former run-of-the-mill feelings are rather robot-like, artificial, and much like how conditioned thoughts function; being of superficial reactions, they seldom, if ever, are of all-encompassing freedom. The latter type of feelings, being insightful, holistic, and selflessly heartfelt, are deeply of compassion and intelligent, comprehensive freedom. Holistic compassion is not run-of-the-mill. Holistic compassion involves love for all, not just for the few.

My Blog primarily consists of close-up nature photos (that I've taken locally) combined with original holistic-truth oriented prose and/or poetry involving mindfulness/awareness. I love nature and I love understanding the whole (not merely the parts and the details). I'm a retired teacher of the multiply handicapped. I have a number of interesting hobbies, such as fossil collecting, sport-kite flying, 3D and 2D close-up photography, holography, and pets. Most of all, I am into holistic self-awareness, spontaneous insight, unconventional observation/direct perception, mindfulness, meditation, world peace, non-fragmentation, population control, vegetarianism, and green energy. I try to be broad-minded about other people Tom, but that is really difficult to do these days – people disappoint me every sing day in one way or another. However, I have compassion and empathy for those people who are ill … I saw my mom’s health struggles and legitimate health issues are real and people have my sympathy. Cute little “helicopter” you have there … ready for liftoff.

Robots or robotic people are lacking – totally lacking in imagination – the bridge they need to cross can’t even be imagined – so how could they cross it?

Every time I see an insect, or take a picture of one I think of you Tom imagining what YOU could do with such a picture! Beyond amazing.

Thanks, Sara, about my photos! I’ve been using a new biocular microscope to look at my cretaceous fossil insects in amber. It’s awesome! I got a camera especially for the microscope. Maybe i’ll be posting cretaceous close-ups!

And for your first comment/question… here is an old poem by Wallace Stevens:

      Twenty men crossing a bridge,
      Into a village,
Are twenty men crossing twenty bridges,
      Into twenty villages,
      Or one man
Crossing a single bridge into a village.

      This is old song
That will not declare itself . . .

      Twenty men crossing a bridge,
      Into a village,
      Are
      Twenty men crossing a bridge
      Into a village.

      That will not declare itself
Yet is certain as meaning . . .

The boots of the men clump
On the boards of the bridge.
The first white wall of the village
      Rises through fruit-trees.
Of what was it I was thinking?
      So the meaning escapes.

The first white wall of the village…
      The fruit-trees…

Tom, your post reminded me of the song “Feelings” by Morris Albert. Sometimes it seems these days as if compassion has been erased from our hearts and spirits, feeling nothing. Great message my friend. 🤗💖😎
