Let’s pretend that thoughts
that are symbols
(and all thoughts are symbols)
are what a central “I” controls
And let’s pretend that this I
(that supposedly controls thoughts)
is not another one of the thoughts
is not another one of the symbols
Let’s wonder what the purpose of this poem is
and let’s think that we are sep
a rate
from the symbols regarding this poem
Let’s pretend that thoughts
that many cling to (and “are”) as superficial habits
have even a fraction of the substantive depth and reality
that genuine heartfelt feelings have
Let’s listen to the sounds around us now
and also hear the sounds
of thinking and pretending
which are not, of course, really sounds at all

My Blog primarily consists of close-up nature photos (that I've taken locally) combined with original holistic-truth oriented prose and/or poetry involving mindfulness/awareness. I love nature and I love understanding the whole (not merely the parts and the details). I'm a retired teacher of the multiply handicapped.
I have a number of interesting hobbies, such as fossil collecting, sport-kite flying, 3D and 2D close-up photography, holography, and pets. Most of all, I am into holistic self-awareness, spontaneous insight, unconventional observation/direct perception, mindfulness, meditation, world peace, non-fragmentation, population control, vegetarianism, and green energy.

Nice poem with perfect accompaning photo!
Thank you very much, Mary! 🙂
monkey always enjoy rumination of tom in prose and poem. here monkey share with tom 1 favorite quote about thing what have name mind. it come from somebody what Man think = a genius artist & writer & teacher. now here quote. “The thing I call ‘my mind’ seems to be kind of like a landlord that doesn’t really know its tenants.”
― Lynda Barry, What It Is
Good one. 🙂 monkey minds get to know the tenants, jumping from all different angles.
Thank you much, Mr. Monkey! 🙂 What Barry said is neat, but even a saying like that can partially lead one astray; “landlord” and “its tenants” implies that there is some kind of separate owner or central proprietor ruling over thoughts; there isn’t.
wonderful poem and photo, Thomas, have a nice week-end, regards Mitza
Thanks so much, Mitza! Hoping your weekend is beyond the ordinary (as it isn’t for so many)! 🙂
If a space-ship will land in our garden, then it will be beyond the ordinary, Thomas. Hope the aliens are in a good mood today. hehe
I enjoyed your thoughtful poem and gorgeous rich greens of your photo.
Thank you! 🙂 … and about the green too! As one was typing this, my wife, Marla, who does embroidery, brought a spool of green thread, that was tangled, for me to look at. It’s still like a lot of minds… in disarray!
Your wisdom words are sending through your beautiful poem. Love it. Thank you for sharing, Tom! 🙂
Thanks Amy! It takes a wise flower to be appreciative of the light of the sun! (Not that i’m the sun!) 🙂
I find light of the sun through your words. Thank you for that, Tom! 🙂
Thanks for this.
Katy is really there, smiling for the camera maybe, in this instant… lets pretend
let’s think that we are sep
a rate
🙂 I can’t assume anything that untrue!
Beautiful shot..!
Thank you, Francis! 🙂
You’re welcome Tom..! 🍁
