I Could While Away the Hours…

Psychologically, the one who perceives something is not (to a large extent) separate from the perception; so, a man or a woman who is discussing something with someone who is standing in a bed of flowers is — in a very peculiar but real way — conversing with the flowers.

(A favorite excerpt from a very special movie):

.

I could while away the hours
Conferrin’ with the flowers
Consultin’ with the rain
And my head I’d be scratchin’
While my thoughts were busy hatchin’
If I only had a brain

I’d unravel any riddle
For any individ’le
In trouble or in pain…

My Blog primarily consists of close-up nature photos (that I've taken locally) combined with original holistic-truth oriented prose and/or poetry involving mindfulness/awareness. I love nature and I love understanding the whole (not merely the parts and the details). I'm a retired teacher of the multiply handicapped. I have a number of interesting hobbies, such as fossil collecting, sport-kite flying, 3D and 2D close-up photography, holography, and pets. Most of all, I am into holistic self-awareness, spontaneous insight, unconventional observation/direct perception, mindfulness, meditation, world peace, non-fragmentation, population control, vegetarianism, and green energy. Stay mindful, understanding, and caring!...

  1. Our generation is so lost we even officially define ourselves separate from nature. This from the dictionary; Nature—English; the phenomena of the physical world collectively, including plants, animals, the landscape, and other features and products of the earth, as opposed to humans or human creations.

  2. Awwww, oh the memories from The Wizard of Oz! Indeed, the one who perceives something is not separate from the perception. “If only I had a brain.” That poor ole scarecrow’s perception of having a brain was what he perceived indeed. Great analogy Tom!!! 👏🏼💖😍

  3. Conferring with the flowers is much more fruitful and enlightening than that with our own human species. They listen better and can impart so much wisdom if we can only be still enough to listen.

  4. Right you are. We are intimately a part of everthing else, yet we have learned to regard ourselves as separate, and therefore alienated, from everything outside our skins. I think that the more we “live” in our abstractions, the less we are fully alive.

  6. Lovely flowers and lyrics from a favorite childhood movie, Tom. My mom auditioned for the part of Dorothy in the movie. 🎥
